Benn started playing golf at the age of 12 at Ashford Golf Club in Kent and won the Kent Amateur Championship before turning professional in 1996.

He completed his PGA training and then excelled on the European Challenge Tour, winning twice. This culminated in securing his full European tour rights via the Challenge Tour in 2003.

With a 4th place finish behind him from the 2000 Scottish PGA Championships, before the transition to the European tour in 2006, finishing 97th on the order of Merit.

Benn improved to 86th in 2007, his highest position to date. This year saw a solid year for Benn with a 4th place finish in the Celtic Manor Wales Open and 3rd in the Russian Open.

Benn has secured his playing rights for the 2009 season.
